World Cup 2010 Final match ball Jobulani | Jo’bulani

Soccer gear:
Since 2002 adidas is producing a special match ball for the World Cup final. The finale ball for the World Cup 2010 in South Africa is called Jo’bulani. The ball is technically speaking the same as the Jabulani but the design on the outside is different. Jabulani means “to celebrate” while the name JO’BULANI is a tribute to the host city of the World Cup Final Johannesburg, commonly known both as “City of Gold” and Jo’burg. While the ball still features the iconic South African-inspired design of the JABULANI, the main colour of the JO’BULANI is gold.

Among the features of the ball are according to adidas:
Both the JABULANI and the JO’BULANI feature the newly-developed “Grip’n’Groove” profile which provides the best players in the world with a ball allowing an exceptionally stable flight and perfect grip. Comprising only eight, completely new, thermally bonded 3-D panels, which for the first time are spherically moulded, the ball is perfectly round and even more accurate than before.

Grip’n’groove texture which allows for maximum control, stable flight and perfect grip under all conditions.
Furthermore the Jabulani comprises eight thermally bonded 3D panels that have been, for the first time ever, spherically molded to make this ball a perfectly round football that is more accurate than ever before.

The 10 most popular soccer jerseys in the German Bundesliga

Statistics:
According to an article in the newspaper Bild based upon data from the shopping search engine Zwenga.de the top 10 list over the most popular soccer jerseys in the German Bundesliga are as follows.
To read the original article click here:
10 most popular soccer jerseys in the German Bundesliga

10. Tim Wiese goalie jersey Werder Bremen
9. Marcell Jansen jersey Hamburger SV
8. Torsten Frings jersey Werder Bremen
7. Lukas Podolski jersey FC Köln
6. Mario Gomez jersey FC Bayern München
5. Manuel Neuer goalie jersey Schalke 04
4. Philipp Lahm jersey FC Bayern
3. Franck Ribery jersey FC Bayern
2. Marko Marin jersey Werder Bremen
1. Arjen Robben jersey FC Bayern

So among the 5 most popular teams in Germany FC Bayern , Werder Bremen, Dortmund , Schalke 04, and HSV 4 are present on the list. Werder Bremen with 3 players on the list and FC Bayern with 4 on the list. FC Köln has one player on the list – German international star Lukas Podolski and a former FC Bayern player which might have contributed to his popularity. Surprisingly enough there are 2 goalie jerseys on the list while striker stars like Kevin Kuranyi and Claudio Pizarro are absent. v. Nistelrooy might have been on the list had he played the entire season for HSV.
But former Real Madrid and current Holland international star ARJEN ROBBEN and the jersey ROBBEN 10 is surely the most popular in the German Bundesliga for the season 2009/10.
One has to point though that these are not actual sales figures provided by the clubs or the athletic apparel producers like adidas or Nike – but rather the number of searches in a shopping search engine. This might distort the results since e.g. the goalie jerseys might be on the list because they are harder to find in search results on google or in normal stores with a limited selection and therefore people make searches for these specialized jerseys in the specialized shopping engine.

The jersey will probably launch on Saturday the 8th of May and be presented at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid for the home game against Athletic Bilbao. Real Madrid might also play the season’s last match in the new jersey which is away to Malaga. The fact that Malaga is playing in a white-blue kit might mean though that Real Madrid will play in the dark navy away kit on the occasion.

The jersey is obviously white for the most part of it. However, the contrast color for the season 2010/11 is blue which is a novelty. For the season 2009/10 the contrast color was black and a bit of gold. For the season 2006/07 the contrast color was purple. For the season 2007/08 it was also blue. For the season 2008/09 it was black / silver. So the most popular contrast colors in the case of Real Madrid are black and blue. Blue is also a color which is part of the Real Madrid crest. It used to be purple but after a makeover of the visual brand image the color changed to a blue color conceived as being more modern.
The Real Madrid club crest is to the left chest. The adidas logo has been moved from the center just below to he collar to the right chest. The stripes on the sleeves are split up in two parts with room made for LFP sleeve badge or Champions League badges in between.

1.2 million Real Madrid RONALDO 9 jerseys sold in Madrid

Real Madrid Numbers:
According to the Portuguese sportspaper A Bola (the ball) Real Madrid has sold 1.2 million jerseys with RONALDO 9 in Madrid alone. The numbers should have been release by the club itself. Real Madrid has two stores itself in Madrid. One at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and one in downtown Madrid very close to Puerta del Sol.
Whether the sales figure stems alone from these two stores is unclear or whether the sales also include what other retailers in Madrid have sold. Among the other retailers carrying the official Real Madrid jersey with the Ronaldo 9 name and number printing is another Madrid institution: El Corte Ingles. El Corte Ingles is a department store with branches across the Iberian peninsula. El Corte Ingles used to run the realmadrid.com online shop but since they are working primarily within the Spanish market this job was ultimately taken over my an UK online retailer with a more global perspective. However, El Corte Ingles has been well-stocked sports departments in its’ Madrid stores and one must assume that they have a considerable sale at these stores. Especially of Real Madrid but also of most other major Spanish teams including town rival Atletico Madrid + the usual suspects internationally such Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool, AC Milan, Inter, Juventus, FC Bayern etc.
But of course Madrid is not the only place where the Real Madrid Ronaldo 9 jersey is on sale so the world wide sales must have been considerable. A boon for adidas, Sporting ID (the producer of the name and number kit), and the club itself Real Madrid.

The choice of colors to suit a Spanish context is red for Spain and white for Madrid. The link to Madrid through the white color might be slightly dubious (white is often used as background color in order to create a contrast – but what has that got to do with Madrid?). Red is often associated with Spain though. Red is found in the flag, in the red wine, in the blood from the bull fighting , the heat , the burned soil etc.

However, due to the fact that the ball is a special anniversary ball the local influence in the design is somewhat downplayed compared to previous editions of the Finale ball.
But nevertheless there is all a special logo for the Madrid 2010 Champions League Final just as has been the case in the past.

Final Madrid 2010 logo

The logo incorporates the sandy, dusty, dry colors of La Mancha. The plateau where Madrid is located and where the soil is very dry and has this golden red color. One can see some patterns similar in style to tradition Spanish art work and a couple of footballs are also present in order to make the connection to the Champions League. And of course “the trophy with the big ears” which it is all about is also portrayed in the graphic.

In terms of Real Madrid players from Chile there are currently no players from Chile in the 1st team squad.
In the past the Chilean player Ivan Zamorano did have a great career at the Bernabeu though.

Ivan Zamorano these days is a popular figure and Chile and due to the fact that he has one of the most recognizable faces he is also very with advertisers. Not many individuals can be said to be household names in an increasingly fragmented world where niches tend to emerge from out of nowhere everywhere.

Argentina away jersey | Argentina World Cup 2010 jersey away

Analysis:
In 1986 when Argentina won the World Cup in Mexico the team played two very famous matches. The first one came in the quarter finals against England which ended up with a 2-1 victory for Argentina. The goals were the famous “hand of God” goal and then a sole run from the center of the field goal both by Maradona.
The second memorable match was the final against Germany. Argentina lead 2-0 , the Germans came back and leveled the match at 2-2 only for Argentina to clinch the win with a late goal for the final score of 3-2.
In the final Argentina played in their traditional blue – white striped home kit. However, for the match against England their used their reserve kit or away jersey which was a fairly bright blue.

Argentina 1986 away jersey

For the World Cup 2010 in South Africa adidas which is the kit sponsor of Argentina has decided to re-create the jerseys from 1986 in a modern version. For the very reason that Argentina played in Le Coq back then would make it impossible to make an exact copy but the inspiration is clearly from the 1986 kit. Both for the Argentina home jersey and for the Argentina away jersey.

Among the current Real Madrid players who might wear this jersey during the summer’s World Cup matches are Gonzalo Higuain, Fernando Gago , and Garay.
Argentina will face Nigeria (green jersey), Korea (red jersey) and Greece (white jersey) at the group stages. If Argentina is to wear the away jersey during the first round it will most likely be against Greece.

Of interest in the photo besides the obvious hand play – the blue Argentina away jersey and the goalie reaching for the ball in vain is the Maradona Puma boots and the adidas Azteca official World Cup 1986 match ball.
